Snapshots from Summer.

I'm enjoying three last days of summer vacation this week before our teacher in-service days and then, before you know it, it'll be Monday morning and we'll be welcoming the new Pre-K kids into their classes.

That's also when it officially becomes fall in my book because a) once school starts, summer is over, and b) let's be honest, in Southern California, does autumn really feel that much different than summer? ;)

Spending the last couple days of my break at the beach, doing some organizing before life gets crazy again, finishing up the Lost series with Nolan (remember when we started? We are in the final season now!) and doing an end-of-summer hike tomorrow morning. With hopefully no tarantula sightings, since apparently that is a thing right now and it's a thing I am just not down with.

Thinking back to what a beautiful summer this was, the good times with my friends, the trips to Palm Springs, all the beach days, and knowing how much progress I've made in my health over the last few months makes me so thankful and even a little bit proud! I'm excited for the new school year, ready for autumn, and happy to have such great memories of summer to look back on until next year.

Oh, I'm also reading a really good book right now!

It's by the author of The Kite Runner, called A Thousand Splendid Suns - have you guys read it? It's very intriguing and thought provoking. I feel like it would be such a good book club read because there are so many things that a reader could have opinions about.. So if any of you have read it, let's book club this ish right now haha. Except I'm only halfway through, so don't tell me how it ends!

How did you spend your summer? What were the highlights?

Enjoy your last few days or weeks of summer and best of luck to those of you going back to work and school!

  3. Girl, one of my favorite books! When you're done, let's call Oprah and book club the crap out of it! On second thought, I should read it again first. It's been a couple years.

  6. I spent my summer being kind of lazy. I didn't have school or a job, so I hung out with Chase a lot, read books, watched HGTV, played the piano, took pictures. Ya know, the good kind of lazy. ;)

Also, I don't think I could handle fall being like summer. The crisp weather, changing leaves, wearing scarves and sweaters - it's my favorite time of year. And if it suddenly turned into summer, which is my least favorite time of year, well, that'd be heartbreaking. I'd move, that's for sure. But you're probably used to it?

    1. Sounds like a great summer, for sure! Yeah, I'm exaggerating a little bit but there ARE certain things that I feel we miss out on here in California - like the leaves changing. That isn't a common sight around here, though it can definitely be found some places. But I wear the scarves and sweaters, hunt for changing leaves, and make autumn my own. It's actually my favorite season! Even if I only get it halfway. :)

  7. a thousand splendid suns!!!! it's just as great as the kite runner. those books are so heavy hearted, but so so good. also, i'm in cali right now and i have nooooo idea how you made it to the beach without freezing to death. locals were rockin the suits & i was layering up the jackets. also, i'm totally with you - school = summer over. except, now that i'm done with school i guess i better get used to the actual seasonal dates.

    1. It's so funny you say that, because when we were at the beach yesterday we were by a family who was visiting from out of town and the mom said "I am so cold, it's not even funny" and then they left! I would think Californians are spoiled by warm weather and would be more sensitive to the cold but it seemed like the out-of-state folks were expecting more warmth than we had! Haha hope you were still able to enjoy your time! And yeah, I think subconsciously that's one of the reasons I became a teacher... to make sure I will forever have a summer. ;)

  8. What lovely summer pictures! My summer highlights were going to Bolivia with Engineers Without Borders and spending afternoons at Lake Raleigh. :) Best of luck with the Pre-K's!! Sounds like fun too.

Khaled Hosseini is one of my favorite authors! He recently just came out with another book, and I've been itching to read it! His story telling really tugs at your heart strings. I hope you enjoy A Thousand Splendid Suns!
