one last vacation.

this year, all of my 'vacations' fell within three weeks of each other. a weekend in davis for the race, an attempt at a vegas trip, and this past week, i finished off my summer travels with a quiet stay in ramona with my family. (plus weston and my brother's friend, joseph too!)

to be honest, there isn't much to do in ramona.
it's kind of forest-y... kind of desert-y... kind of mountain-y...
close to san diego... kind of... but not really close enough to go to the beach more than once.
i don't really know how to explain it.

but although this trip wasn't particularly exciting, it was different than home.
and different is good.
plus, my mom was relaxed. and that doesn't happen often. so seeing her still in pajamas at noon on thursday was enough to make the trip feel worth it.

we did a lot of stuff around our resort the first few days. and ate almost all of our meals outside.

then on friday, weston and i convinced everyone to make the 40 minute drive out to la jolla for a hike that we'd done a few times before. it's not a super long trail - it starts at a dead-end road and ends at the beach... but it's got lots of fun little elements that make it exciting. plus, it drops you at a cove that has hardly any people at it... which is awesome.

we didn't get to stay at the beach for very long before we hiked back up the hill and headed to dinner with my grandpa, but it was lovely while it lasted.

after dinner we watched the olympic opening ceremonies (yay, paul mccartney!) and played a few rounds of poker.

and now we're home and back to work! spent this morning at the school that i'm working at for the summer and now i'm heading out the door for a photo session! i still want to blog a little more about my jobs and the changes that are happening with all that, but i just haven't gotten around to it yet... soon enough. :)

this week, we have some friends here from out of town, so we get to play host instead of being the travelers this time around and that's always nice. looking forward to a good week!

  1. It's nice to see the place where I live through someone else's eyes. I couldn't let your San Diego post go without at least one comment. Ramona is beautiful!
